Biggest Isn't Always Best
The bigger the better is a cliche this world loves to live by.
Who doesn’t want the biggest piece of meat
The largest slice of pie
The house with the most square feet
or the job with the highest salary.
Bigger is better and biggest is best.
That is except when we look at success through God’s eyes.
We have our view of what success looks like.
In Zechariah 4, Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah was tasked with rebuilding the temple.
This is a huge endeavor even with today’s technology so thousands of years ago is even harder to imagine.
But God sent an angel to him to say that not by might or by power will this project be completed but with the help of the strength of the Holy Spirit.
This rebuilding would be a major.
I’m sure it was easy to get discouraged.
But vs 9 and 10 gives the encouragement needed to be successful in all things in the eyes of the Lord.
9 “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. 10 For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. “These seven are the eyes of the Lord, which range through the whole earth.”
Translation: The people watching should not think small beginnings are unimportant but be happy when they see Zerubbabel with tools starting the process.
BECAUSE!!!!!
God is watching with a smile on his face and placing a blessing on his people for their obedience.
The temple is an important and large structure but notice how God already counts starting the project as a success.
The small beginnings and obedience to God are treated as a success because he knows the result.
Everything isn’t big from the beginning.
We can see what God has for us and no matter how big or small it can be successful.
Big isn’t always better and biggest isn’t always best.
What matters is learning to see success through God’s eyes and that is by following in his will.
He will bless us with true success.
The prize is meeting him in heaven.
I hope to see you all there
