Matthew 11:28
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
I know you’re tired.
We all suffer from daily fatigue.
From running the kids to school and sports practice to waking up early to study or travel during our day off.
We are stressed.
The English Standard Version of the Bible calls it heavy laden.
An odd term I must admit, but let’s challenge ourselves to see what is actually making us stressed.
Are we stressed because we have a lot on our plate today or this week?
That type of stress is temporary.
Or, are we “heavy laden” and can’t seem to shake the overwhelming burden of daily life?
Jesus used the language heavy-laden to remind us of the people who deflect their stress and burdens onto others, but never pick up their own portion of the slack.
His promise is to never treat us this way and he even promises to take our stress and put it on his shoulders.
If we don’t take the opportunity to trust God in this way then we will continue to be stressed.
Why?
Because we aren’t being vulnerable to what God has for us.
God wants our lives to go one way, but we can be stubborn.
Our stubbornness might be blocking our blessing.
The promise was that He (God) would be there for us during our struggles.
Walking with God was never promised to be easy, and at times following him can be frustrating, but remember, it shouldn’t be back-breaking labor.
If we feel something is off balance, let’s check back in with the only one who can take the mental and spiritual load off of us.
Let’s rely on Him.
